This month, we are delivering the project at Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 225 in Amsterdam. It is a project for the Kroonenberg Groep with a special story:
In the heart of Amsterdam stands the former Telegraaf building. A proud newspaper building from 1930, designed at the time by Jan Frederik Staal, with an impressive hall on the ground floor featuring enormous printing presses. The upper floors housed the typesetting department and offices for the editorial staff, administration, and management. Here, Kroonenberg Groep and Rijnboutt have realised a unique, comprehensive project with residential, office, and public-commercial functions in the heart of Amsterdam.
Through various renovations and users over time, the National Monument had become isolated from its surroundings and had lost its internal quality. With the recent redevelopment, the original qualities of the press hall, the spaciousness and the connection with the street, have been restored, and the building has been connected to the Kalverstraat. This creates a route through the historic building block. Soon, you will be able to walk from Kalverstraat 28 – a municipal monument from 1890 – through the winter garden and the former printing press hall to the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal. A series of intriguing spaces, suitable for a public-commercial function.
Residential units are being created above the shops on the upper floors of the municipal monument on Kalverstraat.
The floors of the former newspaper building will house state-of-the-art offices that meet the highest contemporary demands, while simultaneously breathing the atmosphere of the newspaper building itself. Carefully and robustly detailed, with a material palette comprising bronze, dark brown natural stone, and black steel. The top floor has been transformed into a prestigious level with large panoramic windows overlooking the city. A spectacular workplace with the allure of the metropolis of Amsterdam.
