Project Description
Winkelcentrum De Barones in Breda was originally designed in 1997 as a shopping centre with two circulation routes: one on the ground floor and one on the first floor. The shops on the upper floor were accessible via stairs, a lift, or escalators from the ground floor. The escalators in the passages meant that the shops on the ground floor were less visible and the walkways were narrow. The decision was made not to expand the approximately 28,000 m2 of De Barones, but to reconfigure it. The renovation has transformed the entire character of the shopping centre, creating larger retail spaces with entrances on the ground floor and internal access within the shops. In addition, the various entrances and the general area have been completely modernised.
