Project Description

'Het Dorp' was the first major television fundraising event in Dutch history. In a 24-hour radio and television programme, presented by Mies Bouwman, over 12 million guilders were raised on 26 and 27 November 1962. In the following days, this eventually rose to approximately 22 million guilders. With this money, 'Het Dorp' was built, the first residential community in the Netherlands for people with disabilities.

Siza has now begun the redevelopment of Het Dorp. “Het Eerste Gebouw” (The First Building) is the first step in this complete rebuild. Significant investment has been made in the latest technologies, enabling residents to live as independently as possible. The homes have been prepared in such a way that future innovations can be easily implemented.
